Age and Youth By Pablo Casals

Casals' attitude toward life: he loves his life and also his job. He enjoys every moment when he works. He likes to play a joke. He does not care about his age because he thinks that it is not important.

Casals' view of retirement: He never thinks about retirement. He always like working, and he think that works help prevent one from getting old. He does not believe in retirement for anyone in my type of work, not while the spirit remains.

The effect of sea on Casals' life: he thinks that the sea is mysterious, beautiful and infinitely variable. It is never the same. The sea effects his life because the sea always becomes something different and new as same as Casals life.

American Values and Assumptions:Privacy

Summary:
In American Values and Assumptions, Gary Althen mentioned that privacy is the important value because American is in individualism. They think that people need time for themselves or they want to be alone sometimes. It is also difficult to Americans to understand people who can't be alone and have to be with oyher people all the time. Therefore, Americans think that people who hate to be alone are not strong and indendent people. However, American's attitudes about privacy can be a hard thing to understand for foreigner. For example, we can see many American's houses, yards and their offices seem opem and inviting all the time, but even it seem open a lot ; in fact, there are loundaries that other people should not cross. As a result, it is called "Privacy"

Personal Response:
I agree with this American Value because I think everybody should have a privacy that they can spend their time alone by themselves. I also have the same opinion about not being with other people all the time. I think that people should do something alone and don't have to depend to other people.

Analysis of Sunday in the Park

Authour's point of view:
Sunday in the park by Bel Kaufman, it is a story about two families spend their time in the same park but they have a fight about their children because a fat boy throw sand to a little boy but the father of a fat boy doesn't blame his son sothat it can make a little boy's partent has a question why that father doesn't blame his son and the parent of a little boy is not happy and get angry. However, in the end, they don't have a fight. The author of this story implies some messages about difference of background in education and economic can make people have different ideas of living and can have so different lifestyle. Including, how parents treat their children is an effect of education and economic backgroud too. I am totally agree with the author. I think a level of education and difference in economis background can influence all human behaviors.

Personal refection:
We face this kind of situation everyday. The situation that I used to deal was people didn't queue up the line. One time, I went to Hongkong Disney land and I was in line for playing some thing but some tourists wanted to jump to the queue. I told them it was a line here and make them go to the end of the line. I deal with this kind of this situation by telling them but tell them nicely because I don't want to fight with someone if they don't do what I tell them , I won't do anything next. I understand that people are different and we can't expect all people will do the same way that I do.

911 Emergenicies&You

The Monterey Park 9-1-1 emergency telephone system is an instrument that provides a quick and efficient help people who need. It is easy because you just have to dial 3-digit telephone number. You can dial from any telephone even from a disconnected phone and it is always free. About 3143 calls annually are made to the Monterey Park 9-1-1, but 50% of these call are not emergencies. There are some important guidelines. First, 9-1-1 should be used for an emergency only. An emergency means a crime in progress which can be life-threatening situation and need the police to help them or even need fire departmaent to save their life. You can also dial 7 digit telephone number,(626)-573-1311, for non emergency situations. The important thing when you call 9-1-1 is that you need to remain on the line so the address and phone number from when the call is originating will appeare on the computer screen in the Communications Center. 9-1-1 can work better if you are prepared to answer the dispatcher's questions and stay calm as much as you can. you should report the "Where","What","Who", and "When" of the situation clearly. Please remember that you are not suppose to dial 9-1-1 for less than emergency situation because it can cause the delay for an emergency situation. ( The Monterey Park Cascades, p.10)

My personal response: I think that 9-1-1 emergency telephone system is very helpful and very effective in U.S.A. This call can help and save a lot of people from emergency situations. Moreover, we can help other people by calling this number to report the police about suspicious situations that you are a eyewitness. With this 9-1-1 number, I can feel secure in this country and in my city,Monterey Park.

Second language learning

Summary: Views of the language learner is that language learner should be someone who learns an additional language. They can learn it from a formal classroom or from society even from work. Second language learner won't be infant bilingual but will be anyone who wants to study more in their second language. Lately, the language which language learner mostly learns is English. In addition, we can divide the learner in 3 kinds. First, the learner as language processsor which is about inner mental mechanisms. It includes Lingusists and Psycholinguists and it depands on individual learner. It also concerns about age. There is a question if age affects the ways to learn language. Secondly, differences between individual learnes can be a reason for differences in learning outcomes. There are 2 factors that can make learners different. One is Cognitive factors. Cognitive factors have 3 points which is intelligence, Language aptitude and Language learning strategies. In addition, students who are more intelligence incline to do well in language learning. For language aptitude, it is like a gift for language learning. About language learning strategies, it can be a reason for successful learners and it can be different for each learner to have a individual strategies. Another factor is Affective factors which also have 3 points: Language attitudes, Motivation, and Language anxiety. Finally, the last kind of languagr learner is the learner as social being. It includes universal Characteristics and individual characteristics. (Mitchell and Myles ,pp.17-20)

Personal Response: I really agree with the writers because I think the scholars' view about learning language and a language learner is very reasonable. I think learners should have thier own ways to learn language. I also think that there are some differences between individual learners. Moreover, I agree with the idea that we all have different cognitive factors and affective factors whic can be a reason why we can not learn in the same way and have the same outcome.
