American Values and Assumptions:Privacy

Summary:
In American Values and Assumptions, Gary Althen mentioned that privacy is the important value because American is in individualism. They think that people need time for themselves or they want to be alone sometimes. It is also difficult to Americans to understand people who can't be alone and have to be with oyher people all the time. Therefore, Americans think that people who hate to be alone are not strong and indendent people. However, American's attitudes about privacy can be a hard thing to understand for foreigner. For example, we can see many American's houses, yards and their offices seem opem and inviting all the time, but even it seem open a lot ; in fact, there are loundaries that other people should not cross. As a result, it is called "Privacy"

Personal Response:
I agree with this American Value because I think everybody should have a privacy that they can spend their time alone by themselves. I also have the same opinion about not being with other people all the time. I think that people should do something alone and don't have to depend to other people.

Yeah. I also think that sometimes people should not to afraid of being alone. we see many times that some people do not want to eat alone becasue they do not want people sees him/her as having no friends something. Like Lucy says, I also think people should repect each other anout their privacy.

yes, that was a big difference between the America and other nations, especially in Asian nations. Asian people who prefer to live with their extended family as a group exisetence but American people always like live with their nuclear family. i think it is a different value in different society.
